Laura Heneghan

A past pupil of the Mayo School of Music, pianist and composer Laura Heneghan began piano lessons at the age of 9. Performing and accompanying in various events throughout her school years, and after completing her grades with the Mayo School of Music, she then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Music in the University of Galway, followed by a Masters in Composition degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Alongside teaching piano and music theory privately for the last number of years, Laura has focused largely on her compositional work. With music described as "memorable and strongly conceived" (The Scotsman), her work frequently makes "vivid use of the [ensemble]'s sonic potential in a compelling and convincing musical argument”. She has had work performed throughout the UK and Ireland by notable groups such as Chamber Choir Ireland, Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble, Gaia Duo, Con Anima Chamber Choir, Contempo Quartet and Irish Chamber Brass. She has had work performed at the Cork International Choral Festival, Sound Festival, West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival, University of St. Andrews and the Emily Anderson Concert Hall in the University of Galway amongst others. Laura has also received numerous accolades for her compositional work, including the Seán Ó Riada Composition Competition 2023, the West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival Emerging Composer Competition 2023, and most recently she was selected for the Contemporary Music Centre’s Emerging Composer Scheme 2024/25
